Walnut wood has a classic dark brown color with purple or red casts.  Many species of wood are stained "walnut", but nothing from a can rivals the color of natural walnut enlivened by an oil finish.  It is a challenge to match the figure of walnut into the form of the chair.  The resulting compositions tend to be slightly unruly — refined but idiosyncratic.  Character marks typically found in our walnut rocking chairs include dark mineral streaks, iridescence, and very small, tight knots.  (Click for more information about Walnut.)
