Hard Rock Maple
We use acer saccharum, commonly called hard maple, hard rock maple, or sugar maple. The wood is very hard and strong, and takes a beautiful finish. We sand and polish. You can tell it. The subtle figure and honey color are occasionally laced with darker character marks.

We built 15 rocking chairs for the birthing rooms of a Women's Center.
People have said that they first held their child or grandchild in one of our rockers.

Dear Gary,
We are ecstatic about our Weeks Rocker!!! You are a masterful furniture artist — it is simple, elegant and extremely comfortable. In fact, I've hardly been anywhere else but sitting in that rocker since it arrived on Tuesday. We will take some photos of how we are enjoying the rocker and promise to share a couple of them with you.
The shipment arrived on time and intact — excellent work!
Thanks again for the great customer service.
Fondly,
The A. FamilyBrookline, Massachusetts
Accessories
Footstools and side tables can create a setting.
It is hard to work sugar maple. It is the hardest wood we work. It will rattle your teeth at the jointer and shaper. It so hard and resistant to wear that we use it to make bearings for various machines, jigs and fixtures that we build to facilitate the furniture making.
But it polishes like a gem stone and is tough and strong--good qualities in rocking chair. It is a good wood for a custom rocking chair in commercial settings.
