Yes, we received the box decorated by a grand daughter (I presume) containing a remarkable creation . . .

We had you ship the cherry rocker to us in KS, as we plan to carry it with us as we travel next week to NY for a family gathering with J and S (the recipient). This will afford us the luxury of watching their response to its arrival in their lives in person.

And, that will be a delight!! The decorated box will be opened to a marvelous creation. Well conceived, the execution was flawless with a reverence for the material. The idea of the many days of sun and rain and snow in the growing of a tree(s) to produce the wood that your capable hands crafted into an instrument (a thing of beauty in itself) that S. will slowly introduce another being into the rhythms of existence in . . . let the music ebb and flow . . .

So, though I took a week to acknowledge my reaction to your work in hopes of getting the words right, it boils down to a simple Thank You. My admiration and respect to you and your son and your crew for sharing beauty with us and those who follow us.

Hello and Happy New Year!!

He's rocking in it now. As I expected, the chair was quite a surprise and an adjustment from what he was sitting in, but he's been in it every day since the 25th, with no complaints. In fact, he even said it's more comfortable than he expected it to be (this is a huge compliment from someone who does not receive gifts well AT ALL).

The delivery arrived without incident on the 22nd. I should tell you that the folks who brought it to me were very helpful unloading, unwrapping and even carting away the packing materials; I think they were eager to see what was inside! It's a beautiful chair, and I know that one day soon, I'll be ordering from you again . . . for me, in walnut!

I fought my way into the second [Terrell] table last night, just a little bubble-wrap to clear . . . it's the maple, and it is soooo lovely, the grain is just so deep. They are both just so wonderful, and I'm really glad I got them!

The packing, well, that's star packing, for sure. I have plenty of wrap to send christmas with, and the bulk left over goes to 'Go Postal' our local UPS store or whatever it is. They treasure peanuts and bubble and all, little as possible gets wasted.

Just so you're informed, there was a small hole in one side of the box, about large enough for a finger, but it was opposite the back of the chair. No problem.

The rocker was indeed delivered on Monday, Jan 15; apparently it got stuck in Memphis and was not here for Friday the 12th as we had originally hoped, but with the ice storms between you and us, we certainly understood the delay.

The rocker was in great condition; the UPS guy even stuck around to help Richard unscrew the wood frame and remove the rocker from the box because he was so impressed with the solidity of the shipping container and was curious to see what everything looked like inside!

You must use the best corrugated cardboard available; I tried to break down the top portion of the box to put into recycle, and it will take some time to get it into recyclable pieces (our trash company is really picky about the size of items we put out weekly). But the bottom box (the one with the frame on the bottom) is going to be recycled as our 5-year old granddaughter's "mobile home" as she calls it. She was here for the day when the truck came and was ecstatic to have the box to play in! We have moved it to a downstairs room off the walk-out basement until nicer weather prevails — then we will take it outdoors and she can imagine trips to her heart's content.

So then she came indoors, helped take off the bubble wrap, sat in the chair with me to give it a "test drive", and then proceeded to wrap herself in the bubble wrap to make a princess dress for herself. Later this week, we will have the new granddaughter come over so we can all rock her in the chair. It is beautiful and fits well into the space we made for it in the study-TV room.

Thank you for such a lovely product and for the excellent communication you provided regarding shipping, etc. We hope to enjoy this for many years.

I meant to e-mail you earlier. The rocker chair arrived about 11:30am with no problems. I had to laugh a bit at the delivery because it was delivered in a full-size semi and when the driver opened up the back to take the chair out, the whole truck was empty except for the one box with the chair. I asked the driver about it and he just said it was a slow day.

Anyway, the chair is beautiful and we are having lots of fun sharing it. I'm sure this will give us many, many years of enjoyment.

The chair was delivered this morning and it's a beauty!

We live in an isolated area and the delivery company was a little concerned about bringing their tractor-trailer into our road. After several phone calls, one of their drivers, who lives in my area and was on his way home after the night shift, decided to put it on the back of his truck and bring it to me. It was a fitting way for the chair to arrive since it served to underscore the friendliness of the whole enterprise and introduced me to one of my neighbors.

The wood and workmanship of the chair is beautiful; I can't quite believe how sturdy it is. No wonder you give it such a great guarantee.

Thank you for your email. I had called to schedule an appointment for delivery today, and waited all afternoon. Finally, I called the delivery place and they said that the rocking chair was missing. I asked what I could do now. They said they should be able to find it within the next couple of days. I told them I was upset that I wasted the afternoon awaiting the delivery. They apologized and said that they would deliver it within a 1 hour window once it is found.

I just thought I should let you know that the delivery service you have used has treated your customer in this way. I am not happy about this situation, but seem to have no other choice. Currently, I have a six week old baby and a visitor from Australia stuck in the house for one day and now we'll have to be here again, when they find the chair.

Otherwise, I have been happy with your service, and would suggest you to others, though maybe not your delivery service.

I was out of town last week. I am chagrined to return and find that your chair has not been delivered and that you were stood up by Overnite. I am very sorry for your inconvenience and for the delay.

Overnite is a large company with terminals throughout the states. When their system works well, as it almost always does, they are amazingly fast and reasonably priced. When it doesn't, they appear to be a clumsy bureaucracy. Again I regret that you have experienced the latter.

Austin, my son, has been calling N. at the San Diego terminal, and I called him today. Apparently, or most likely, the chair was loaded onto the wrong trailer at some point between us and you and will soon be discovered out of place and delivered. I just called the terminal manager in Austin, our local terminal, who verified that, when this occurs, the missing item soon reappears.

I would like to give Overnite a few days to deliver your chair. If they have not delivered a chair to you this week we will finish one of the chairs we are now working on for you.

Hi Gary,

I was going to write you an email today, but it looks like you beat me to it . . . :) Yes, I did get the chair yesterday and it is more beautiful than I'd imagined it! It is as much a piece of art as it is a piece of furniture . . . The original design, the quality of the wood, and the impeccable craftsmanship makes it a one of a kind piece!

I would give the overall experience a 10/10 if it wasn't for the delivery . . . The delivery company would not deliver on Saturdays, and could only give me 4-hour windows in the morning or afternoon. That doesn't work for any person working full-time, as it effectively requires one to take a full day off. The Stickely dresser I bought a few months back was delivered on a Saturday morning, and that worked out perfectly. As the Overnite Transportation warehouse was just a few miles away from my office, I ended up driving there during lunch break to pick up the chair myself. The crate would not fit in my Honda Pilot, so I had to disassemble it on-site . . . Quite an ordeal. In short, I'd suggest that you look into using a delivery company that does Saturday deliveries.

Here it is. A happy mother rocking already with the baby. We are totally happy with the chair. The only bad news was that French customs were much more expensive then expected (533 euros, which is about twice the amount you mentioned initially; this is something you have to know for future transactions!).

[ Ouch! I get an estimate for duties and taxes from my agent and forward that amount to people in another country who are considering a purchase. The customs and duty charges on previous shipments to France have been accurate. Apparently, however, it is impossible for me to get a firm and correct quote for duties and taxes to every country, every time. This experience makes me reluctant to estimate duties and taxes on an international shipment.

You warned me it would be a different color than the other cherry rocker you made me (#629 in 2000), but the contrast was surprising. My older chair is a beautiful rosy color now and I had never realized how it had changed. Now that I know, it will be fun to watch the progress of the new chair.

The delivery folks were a joy to work with — very friendly setting up the delivery date, and excellent service when they arrived.

My two grown daughters will no longer have to fight over who "inherits" my rocker. I just hope they don't decide to bump me off so they won't have to wait!

Hi Gary,

I just had a very exciting morning. The Plycon guys delivered the dining set today, a whole week early! I have to tell you that I am floored with your expert craftsmanship. A huge thank-you to your entire team. I only had a few moments to admire the satin smooth finish and enjoy the heft of the chairs before setting off to work, but dinner tonight will be a treat. I am extremely pleased with the set.

All the pieces were very well protected and everything seemed snugly wrapped. In fact, the delivery guy took quite a few minutes unraveling each piece. I only want to add that the delivery guy did ding one of the arm chairs. After unwrapping the chairs in the truck, he grabbed two chairs and tried to get them into the house all at once. Unfortunately, when he came up the porch steps, one of the chair tops banged into the ceiling overhang of the covered porch. I was rather disappointed with his carelessness, and I just wanted you to be aware of it. I'm not sure if this was an isolated incident with the particular delivery guy, or a mark of company, Plycon. I suggested that he bring in the rest of the pieces one at a time, which he did. Other than that, the delivery went very smoothly.

As for the ding in the chair back, I ran a barely-damp cotton cloth gently over the ding a couple of times, and got the white paint off. Can I use some lemon oil to get the luster back? Or should I hold off, until the chair cures a bit? The ding is very shallow, and about the width of a grain of rice. It isn't particularly noticeable (now that the paint is gone), but I just want to treat it right, and keep it protected.

C., I am delighted that you like your furniture and dismayed at the careless delivery. I have a simple repair that you can do to make the chair arm good as new; I just regret that you have to do it.

I hope dinner last night was a treat. Have the dinner party invitations gone out?

Rereading your note, I see that the ding is on the back of an arm chair, rather than the arm of the arm chair. Anyway, I can mail a repair kit to you with instructions, oil, and sandpaper. You can use a clothes iron and a damp cloth to drive steam into the compressed fibers, swelling them back to the surface. The following day, you can lightly sand with a very fine grit and apply a bit of the hand-rubbed oil finish that we use. You will need to lightly sand and re-coat on a subsequent day to get the sheen back. I am upset to put this on your plate, but it is not difficult or very time-consuming. The other options are:

1. Do nothing and consider that the first ding in the Charlene era of this long lasting furniture came too early.

2. Say to me: "Gary, you promised that the furniture would be delivered as new; I am hesitant to make this repair. Will you do it for me?" I will have it brought to me; I will repair it, and return it.

I hope you remain a "happy girl." I will do my part to keep it so.

Yes, it was delivered yesterday afternoon by Motor Cargo. Everything went fine as far as delivery and condition.

The rocker is wonderful, truly a work of art. And the minute I sat in it, it was comfortable, a perfect fit with everything supported, and a lovely rock. I was delighted with the curve in the arms, the way you can put your elbows off the end of the arm and not have any pressure on the elbow to make your arms "go to sleep". (By design or accident, a great feature).

My husband was also very pleased with the beauty and comfort of the rocker. I suspect we will have to take turns with "my" rocker.
