I apologize for not writing sooner — it has been a bit of a whirlwind since we picked it up on Saturday. We only opened it last night. We thought we would try not to but we just couldn't resist taking it out of the crate. It is exquisite . . . I love how the grains match so beautifully. It is truly a work of art.

Of course, we could not resist sitting in it if only briefly and oh my, it is so comfortable. It holds the body just so . . . as if it were made to measure for each one who sits in it. No doubt our family will spend long hours daydreaming in that perfect chair. Indeed, I write stories for my grandchildren and I can already feel one coming on about the magic rocker that will take you anywhere your imagination can go; the magic rocker that fits every body just so. Imagine the adventures that will be had for generations in that perfect chair!

We haven't given the gift yet as we will present it to them on their wedding which is June 21, 2017. Honestly, we are tempted to keep it so it is a good thing the initials are on the chair as we can't hide the fact that it is actually for F.!! We do know that they will love it as much as we do and that it will become a family heirloom.

Oh and I should add that I did not end up having to pay duty. The very kind Canadian Border Officer asked me what was in the crate and I told her the truth. The perfect rocker, hand made in Texas and a wedding gift. She smiled and said have a nice day and a beautiful wedding. So despite a moment of confusion your perfect rocker is already creating good relations!

Good Morning Austin,

My walnut rocker arrived in Sisters, Oregon yesterday in perfect condition.

When I ordered this rocker, I told you that I had a very bad lower back and there was a good possibility that the chair wouldn't work for me. You said that it wasn't a problem and that if the chair wasn't comfortable, I could send it back for a refund.

My purpose in writing you today is to tell you that this chair is NEVER going to be returned. My wife was the first to sit in it. She sat down and said, "Oh My God, this is so comfortable." When I sat in it, I had the same thought.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon sitting in the chair marveling at how good it felt. The chair is beautiful. The chair is comfortable. What more could I ask for?

Thank you for opening up your shop and showroom to us last Friday the 24th. We very much appreciated seeing the process of your fine furniture making. My brothers and I get together once a year and visit a workshop of a master craftsman. You could call us wood enthusiasts and avid woodworkers and have an appreciation for skills such as yours.

Last year we visited the legendary Sam Malouf's' showroom and shop in California. Mr. Malouf's work sets the gold standard for beauty and honoring the wood. The Gary Weeks furniture is equally spectacular. There are a few dramatic differences though. The Malouf rocker has graceful, fluid joints with a lounge–like sloping back but joints connecting lower legs to rocker were weak and some were cracking from the stresses of use. The Gary Weeks rocker by contrast had a more substantial joint design at the rocker and leg and was designed to be rocked in. We saw no evidence of joint stress in the Gary Weeks chairs or rockers. While the Malouf rockers are masterful works of art, the Gary Weeks rockers are masterpieces meant for everyday use and enjoyment.

I hope you and your family had a nice Christmas and are enjoying the new year. As promised, attached are photos of my grandchildren and me in the rocking chair. During the first weekend we had the rocking chair, I think my granddaughter spent more time in it than I did!

The rocking chairs are absolutely beautiful. Right now, we have them in front of our fireplace here in Fort Worth, but we will retire soon and move them to the bay window at our lake house in Granbury. Of course the minute he sat in the chair, he loved it. That same evening he fell asleep in it by the fire, so yes, we will be keeping it. It is a beautiful addition to our retirement home and I'm sure he will enjoy it for many years.

Yes, my chair and footstool did arrive and I have admired them all weekend. It is extremely comfortable and fits me perfectly! It is the nicest rocker I have ever had the opportunity to sit in. And I like the color — from the photographs it looks like there are quite a variety of shades in the walnut. The walnut rocker on the website is a dark color while some of the email pictures were quite a bit paler with more of a yellow tint. So this one is very nice. I also like how there is almost an iridescent quality to the grain so it is quite an artistic and interesting chair to look at, as well as being so comfortable.

Hello Gary and Leslie —

The rocker was delivered yesterday. The box was in reasonably good condition; the edge guards are brilliant. The delivery guy and I opened the box and removed the chair but did not unwrap it. Everything looked undamaged and I signed for it. I unwrapped it this morning and brought it inside. It is beautiful; an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship. I sat on it and immediately smiled because it is exactly as described on your website. Every surface is perfect. It is so comfortable. I was mostly unsure about there being only 4 slats in back but my concerns were unwarranted. I am looking forward to a rainy day to sit there by my window and read a good book, not that I won't be enjoying it on nice days, too.

Yes, we received the box decorated by a grand daughter (I presume) containing a remarkable creation . . .

We had you ship the cherry rocker to us in KS, as we plan to carry it with us as we travel next week to NY for a family gathering with J and S (the recipient). This will afford us the luxury of watching their response to its arrival in their lives in person.

And, that will be a delight!! The decorated box will be opened to a marvelous creation. Well conceived, the execution was flawless with a reverence for the material. The idea of the many days of sun and rain and snow in the growing of a tree(s) to produce the wood that your capable hands crafted into an instrument (a thing of beauty in itself) that S. will slowly introduce another being into the rhythms of existence in . . . let the music ebb and flow . . .

So, though I took a week to acknowledge my reaction to your work in hopes of getting the words right, it boils down to a simple Thank You. My admiration and respect to you and your son and your crew for sharing beauty with us and those who follow us.

First above anything else, thank you so much from the M. family for providing what has to be the most comfortable and relaxing chair in our entire house. Not a day goes by where we don't admire its beauty or sit in its welcoming form. Upon its arrival, I claimed it as my primary chair in the house. Upon the birth of our daughter, mom has summarily displaced me from this fictitious right and uses it every day for nursing, comforting as well as some well deserved napping. Each person that puts eyes on it for the first time is really quite taken with its beauty and craftsmanship. We couldn't be more happy with having this chair in our house and as part of our family. It will truly last a lifetime and beyond and I couldn't be more proud to pass this piece along to the future M. generation.

Gary did a great job picking out the walnut. It is more beautiful than I imagined and it matches perfectly.

I bought the Mesquite rocker from Gary weeks about 5 yrs ago; it is a work of art and by far the most comfortable rocker I have ever had. The craftsmanship is terrific and the wood lovely, it is a well engineered product. Further, Gary and Co. stand behind their product. I recently had a break in one of the rockers and when I contacted them, they stood behind their warranty and arranged a repair. I received my cherry rocker today and, like the previous one I ordered several years ago, it is exquisite! It truly is perfect in every detail.
Your chairs are one of the few things in life that are crafted to be handed down to generations, as this one will. I have gifted my older chair to my best friend and life partner who, I'm sure, will pass it down to her beautiful family.

I have a very small condominium and when guests visit, they invariably gravitate to your chair. Everyone remarks how beautiful it is and simply can't believe a wooden rocker can be so comfortable. Honestly, your chair should be displayed in the Smithsonian!!

I'm so glad I decided to have you dowel and spline the chair in maple. A small thing to some, perhaps, but it seems to add an even greater artisan touch to your rocker. As the cherry darkens with age, those details will become even more beautiful.
