Howdy Gary,

Hoping all is well. Here’s my take on the rocker.

My solid cherry rocking chair arrived recently. Virtus Propter Se - Excellence or virtue for it’s own sake ! This is an art object of stunning beauty. Transcendental hand craft. Seemingly impossible? Except: there it is.

I’m a retired master carpenter living in a cabin in central Alaska. A custom rocker has been a long time desire. I’m a minimalist so I had to think carefully if this was the material possession to add to my small cabin. I’ve had a lifelong pursuit of high skill levels in a number of areas : virtuoso classical piano studies, degrees in classical piano and philosophy, 40 years of carpentry and woodworking, serious reading, long distance paddling, skiing, and backpacking, subsistence hunting and fishing, building a homestead, etc. I say all that to say - I’m a bit of a fanatic when it comes to skill and excellence! It takes a great deal to turn my head. My head has been turned. I’ve carefully scrutinized the rocker. It’s as close to perfection as any piece I’ve seen. Kind of spooky actually. The closest I’ve seen is a master wooden boat builder I knew when I lived in the Alaskan coastal village of Haines.

Gary, family and the entire group are extremely easy to work with. And lastly, although not cheap, the chair is very reasonably priced. Frankly, I don’t know how a product of this quality can be made for the price?

I’m already thinking I might need a straight chair at some point!

Hi Gary,

We have a profound appreciation for the artistry that goes into the design and construction of your pieces. Your rocking chair brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. Our house has several family antique pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries, and I feel confident that your pieces will be part of the cherished family heirlooms we pass along to future generations.

Gary,
Just got the chair and it’s in perfect condition. I’m sitting in it right now and it is just as good as advertised. Please take the time to thank your crew for me and let them know I really appreciate the attention to detail they put into this chair. Attached are a few pictures of where she’ll be living and the view she’ll have for the next few years.

Sincerely,

Hi Gary - we do indeed have it. Finishing up the remodel so did not have a chance to really look at it until last night. It is breathtakingly beautiful! Thank you so much!

I can't tell you how he loved this chair. He was "blown away". He said "this is the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in." I know he will spend many happy moments in this chair reading. You are a blessing, and your talents are so very much appreciated. Thank you for making this happen today.

Hello Gary,

My wonderful rocker arrived yesterday afternoon in perfect condition delivered by a man with a truck wearing mask and gloves.

It is gorgeous, fits perfectly, and rocks like a dream. I am speechless to find the right words to express my delight and gratitude. I have been wanting a rocker for a long time and have test rocked dozens. All were wanting. This one is perfect. Thank you Gary Weeks and all your company.

Hi Gary,

All arrived safely yesterday!!!!

The chair and table are stunningly beautiful!!! I find myself rocking in the chair (it's difficult to leave it) and admiring the table - the craftsmanship is outstanding.

Many thanks to you and the team - I'm sure we'll enjoy these pieces for many, many years and will send good thoughts to you all as we rock.

Best wishes,

Well, it was a thrill to see you again after 30-plus years, even masked, however briefly. I was startled by how heavy that rocker was. ... The chair is very friendly to me; it "feels" more comfortable than the walnut rocker. I know the they are dimensionally identical, so that judgment is completely arbitrary. The mesquite rocker sits there glowing, as if it has batteries in it!

My "logical" rationale for having a second rocker is that now I can leave one to each of my two children. The truth, however, is that I WANTED a mesquite rocker. ...

BTW, you have created a wonderful website. I have learned so much from it about the various woods and how you make furniture. Thank you!

Gary,

…Sometimes I am across the room from it and I just have to walk over, sit down, and rock for awhile. It feels good for my soul. I moved an old lamp away from it as it seemed to distract from the chair’s beauty. I love my new rocker. Many thanks to you and your team.

Take care,
